WHAT ARE YOU SAVING?
In the mountains of China, a native mother was busily washing her clothes in the mountain stream. As she worked, her little daughter played contentedly along the bank of the river. Suddenly, the woman was aware of a distant roaring sound. She listened as the sound grew louder and louder. Looking upstream she saw a tremendous mountain of water coming straight for them. It was one of those flash floods which come suddenly in mountainous areas. She immediately dropped everything and grabbed at her little girl’s skirts, and ran up the steep river bank. Relieved to have reached safety, she turned to her child. It was then that she realized that she had missed the child and in her hands she held her own skirt. The “Church” is in a similar position today. We have gathered our skirts about us as it were, we have saved ourselves but we have missed the great task of the Church and the souls…
