MCGAVRAN’S PASSION
In 1965, President Hubbard of Fuller Theological Seminary invited me to become the founding dean of the School of World Mission. That school has now become the world’s largest graduate school of world mission. In 1953 I did a careful study of what the many missionaries in India from England, America, Sweden, Australia, and other lands were doing. I became convinced that most of them were doing good works (education, medicine, agricultural improvement, and the like) and were winning relatively few to Christian faith. Careful study of the Scriptures, however, led me to believe that the heart of the missionary task was winning people to Christian faith. the goal of all missionary effort was the movement of the ethne (segments of the population) to Christ. We face today a world population consisting of more than 100,000 unreached ethne.
