KING ME!
Howard Hendricks tells about the times he would go to a nearby park and watch the older men play checkers. On one such occasion, one of the men asked him if he would like to play. Howard sat down and took the challenge. At first the boy was not doing too badly. He even captured a few of the pieces of the older man. And then all of a sudden, the older man picked up one of his checkers and began to hop Howard’s checkers clear across the board and then said, “King me!” Once he had the king, he quickly cleared the board of Howard’s checkers. That was the day that Howard Hendricks learned about long-range planning. No one cares about losing a few checkers when he’s headed for king territory.
