PRIORITIZED OBLIGATIONS
Whenever a person tries to straighten out his or her life, one of the most fundamental things that must be done is to clarify just what is going on — to sketch out clearly in his or her mind the full dimensions of the issue. Specifically, to clarify one’s obligations means to draw some distinctions between real and imaginary obligations and to pinpoint exactly where the obligations come from. Clarifying obligations can involve such things as listing current obligations, analyzing and describing them, lifting them up and turning them around, assessing them, appraising them, weighing them — sorting out the real from the imaginary, the good faith from the bad, the helpful from the destructive.
