PASSING IT ON
There’s not a Christian person today who isn’t somehow the product of missionary efforts, the fruit of missionaries who went outside their national boundaries and brought the good news of Jesus to those who had never heard it before. Like many Americans I have a number of ethnic lines in my blood, including German and Swedish. Do you know how the Gospel first came to Germany? Back in the late 3rd century A.D. the German tribes were invading and raiding the Roman Empire. Now face it, our German ancestors back then were a pretty rough bunch of people, not the sort you’d want to invite home for a pleasant dinner. And, of course, like everyone else in those days they tried to capture people from whatever country they were raiding and bring them back as slaves. It happened on one of their raids the Germans captured some Roman Christians. And those Roman prisoners of war, slaves of our ancestors, began telling…
