LIGHT IN THE LANTERN
In 1891 a train company was being sued because a person had been killed at a train crossing. The plaintiff’s lawyer interrogated the night watchman at the crossing. When asked if he was on duty, he responded, “Yes, sir.” “Did you have a lantern?” “Yes, sir” “Did you wave the lantern?” “Yes, sir” His testimony was so convincing that the plaintiff lost the case. Afterwards, the president of the company congratulated the watchman, telling him that his testimony saved the company a great deal of money, and that he would be compensated accordingly. The president then asked the watchman, “Were you nervous on the stand?” “Well, sir, I was a little afraid they would ask if my lantern was lit!” The light of the world is Jesus. The world will see his light as he shines through his people. Is your lantern lit?
