THE ROAD TO ETERNAL GAIN
Russ Chandler, religion writer of the L. A. Times wrote an excellent book a few years ago entitled The Overcomers. It tells the stories of twelve outstanding Christians who have dealt with significant problems in their lives. The book begins with the story of Elisabeth Elliot, who first became prominent through her account of the martyrdom of the five young missionaries who were murdered by the Auca Indians in 1956, including her husband Jim Elliot. Elisabeth Elliot recalled some of the trying events in her life through which she learned important lessons: Elisabeth, who first went to South America to do translation work in 1952, mentioned three experiences of loss in that first year working with a small tribe of Indians called the Colorados. . . .
