REFLECTIONS ON THE FAMILY
We as a race see ourselves so different from each other: I’m white, you’re black; I’m male, you’re female; I call God Jehovah, you call God by a different name. We see ourselves as so different from each other. But we are the same; we are the continuing creation of God. And until we begin to see this, until we begin to see ourselves as the various and diverse parts of the same family, we will continue in spiritual isolation. George Howe Colt wrote this in an essay on the family. “God setteth the solitary in families,” says the Bible. That’s it. Without family, we would be alone. Without both of mine, I would be incomplete. As my wife and I watch our daughter grow, we catch ourselves repeating the patterns of the past, both good and bad.
