EVOKING CHOICES
The Christian leader, refraining not only from the use of force but even from the subtler pressures of fear and coercion, must evoke each member’s voluntary participation. Failing that, he must respect, however misguided he considers it to be, each member’s freedom of choice and action. Excerpt from Elaine Pagel, Adam, Eve, and the Serpent (Random House, New York, 1988), page 103, as quoted in Verdict.
