The fall of the Christian leader is likened to an oil tanker that polluted the shores of Alaska. The Greek term which is translated as “minister” is “hyperetes.” It is also translated as “servant” or as “helper.” Its literal meaning is “the under rower” of a boat. Another Greek word which describes the gift of administration is “kybernesis,” coming from the verb that means “to guide” or “to steer.” Some principles that will help the leader guide to safe passage: 1) The wise helmsman is always a learner. He never loses awe at handling the things of God. 2) A wise helmsman is never a loner. The key to keeping the ship off the rocks is constant interaction and relationship with a multitude of counselors.
