TIME OUT IN LINE
I was standing in a long check-out line at the supermarket. Ordinarily, I would start grumbling because only one cash register was opened, but this time I decided to let it pass. As I waited, a young woman with an over-filled shopping cart pulled up behind me looking exhausted. Feeling empathetic, I turned to her and said, “Another cash register really should be opened. If you feel uncomfortable about inquiring, I’ll gladly ask the management to do it.” “Oh, thank you, but no!” she exclaimed. “I’m the mother of newborn twins and a two-year-old, and I don’t want to go home!” Esther Stein, Teaneck, New Jersey
