FIVE TYPES OF PHARISEES
Let me share with you an example of some so-called good sinners — the Pharisees of Jesus’ day. These people were the conventional respected “good” men of their time. Their name meant “to separate” and they did withdraw from all perceived evil associations of their time. It was their intent to give obedience to every precept of the oral and traditional law. To illustrate just how separate, or good, these men tried to live, I want to share with you the FIVE DIFFERENT TYPES of Pharisees: 1. The “shoulder” Pharisee. He paraded his good deeds before men like a badge on the shoulder. 2. The “wait-a-little” Pharisee. He would ask someone to wait for him while he performed a good deed. 3. The “blind” Pharisee. He would bruise himself by walking into things because he had shut his eyes to avoid seeing a woman. 4. The “pestle” Pharisee. He would always walk with bowed head rather than observe alluring temptation.…
