THE VALUE OF CHASTITY
The chastity of a future spouse means far less to young Americans than to young Chinese, according to a recent international survey reported in the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology. Out of 18 different characteristics for choosing a mate, some 10,000 young adults from 37 different countries around the world disagreed most notably about chastity. Young men from mainland China regarded a prospective spouse’s chastity as the third-most important attribute out of the 18; young Chinese women rated it sixth. By contrast, young American men rated chastity 17th and young American women rated at 18th. From The Family in America, May, 1990, taken from S.A.M.I. (Single Adult Ministry Information)
