Perspective | Coaching | Vision

A popular author of inspirational books tells of his first season as a member of his high school varsity football team. Being a substitute, he spent a good deal of his time sitting on the bench. From that vantage point, he noticed after the first couple of games that the head coach would disappear in the middle of the third quarter . . .

I remember looking up from the sidelines and noticing that he was gone. I couldn’t figure out what had happened. I was afraid the other team had kidnapped him, or maybe he had gotten sick on his chewing tobacco.

So I asked one of the seniors on the bench, “Where’s the coach?” “High up in the Press Box,” the senior replied. “Getting coffee?” I asked. “No, getting perspective,” said the senior.
