In a recent issue of the Reader’s Digest there is a report on a RD/Gallup Survey on interest in religion. They detect a rising tide of interest in prayer. 87% said they pray sometime during their everyday lives. 70% say their prayers have been answered. This figure includes 75 percent of those who are not members of a church or synagogue, and half of the people who subscribe to no formal religion. There is also a significant change in the types of people who pray. Past research showed that people who pray tended to be the aged, the sick, the poor and those with limited educational and social backgrounds. Today, a growing number of the well-educated, well-to-do, and those in the prime of life are also finding spiritual and emotional fulfillment in prayer.
