A minister told the organist how the morning service was to to be conducted. Then he explained, “After my sermon, I’m going to ask those members who are willing to give $25 or more for new choir robes to stand. “He paused, then said, “It may take a few minutes for people to make up their minds, so play some appropriate music while they are considering.”

”All right. I’ve got just the thing,” said the organist.

Later, after the minister made his appeal to the congregation, the organist played, full-volume, “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
