Someone has come up with a fantasy about what might have happened if the twelve Apostles had submitted formal job applications to Jesus. The applications are reviewed by a team of management consultants and Jesus receives the following report:
Thank you for submitting the resumes of the 12 men you have chosen for management positions in your new organization. All of them have now taken our battery of tests; and we have run the results through our computer.
It is the staff opinion that most of your nominees are lacking in skills suited for the type of work you are undertaking.
Simon Peter is emotionally unstable and given to fits of temper. Andrew has absolutely no leadership ability. The sons of Zebedee, James and John, would tend to place personal interest above company policy. Thomas demonstrates a questioning attitude that would be likely to undermine morale. And we feel that we should tell you that Matthew, the tax collector, has been blacklisted…
