A couple of years ago, a man wrote a book in which he predicted that in the year 2000 the North and South Poles would undergo a tremendous shift, a movement that would cause the entire earth to be covered with more than fifty feet of water. Actually, there are a few scientists around who hold similar theories about a coming event of this kind. What do you suppose most of us would do if we were convinced we would be faced with such a predicament in the very near future? When asked this question, a certain Rabbi replied:
“I think the religious leaders would take over. In New York City, for example, Masses and other devotional services would be ongoing — 24-hours-a-day — in St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Billy Graham would be conducting marathon prayer services in Madison Square Garden. The Protestant Churches would have their best preachers in their pulpits on a continuing basis. Then, New York’s leading Rabbi would assemble the Jewish population…
