In a book called, “We Really Do Need Each Other,” a Professor of Religion gives us a personalized little glimpse into what Jesus is telling us in today’s Gospel Lesson:
I never will forget one afternoon when I was coming back from a retreat up in the Sierra Mountains. I was taking the back way home and there were about four or five cars in front of me coming down the mountains. We were just cruising along, a mile or two at most over the speed limit, when a police officer pulled us over. There were five of us all told, and all of us thinking the same thing about what a dumb situation this was. Here we were, fifty miles from nowhere — five irate drivers and this young cop. There we stood in the broiling sun, mad as we could be at the injustice of the whole thing. And right in the midst of it all I looked at this young policemen…
