A fifteen-year study at the Monroe Clinic in Monroe, Wisconsin, revealed that more than half of all physical complaints are emotionally induced. The study showed that 75% of all complaints of “pain in the back of the neck,” 50% of gall bladder pain, and 80% of headaches were self-induced.
A doctor who reviewed the study recalled the case of a woman who had an unjustified fear of losing her husband’s affection. Looking for sympathy, she subconsciously brought on an illness which caused her to be hospitalized. After exhaustive testing, the doctor told the woman’s husband that nothing was wrong with her physically; that her illness was emotionally induced.
