It is clear from the life and teaching of Jesus in the Gospels, that our relationship with God is the most important thing in our lives. Everything else-our health, our relationships with others, our career, everything-literally finds its meaning in our relationship with God. But it is difficult for us, sometimes, to know exactly what that means because we don’t know who God is. We don’t have the confidence of the little boy who was drawing pictures with his crayons. His mother asked him what he was doing. “I’m drawing a picture of God,” he said. When mother patiently explained that no one knows what God looks like, the boy replied, “Don’t worry, mom, they will when I get done.”
Technically, mother is correct. No one knows what God looks like. Jesus said, “No one has seen God.” But Jesus did use one picture of God so often that it is obvious how He wanted us to be thinking about God. Jesus spoke of…
