Sermon Topic

New Year,

A certain obstetrician delivered babies with great professional skill as well as with a flourish all his own. When the babies first appeared, he began talking to them. From the moment he first touched them he would smile at them and offer them soothing words of welcome …

“Hello little one, now don’t be frightened. This is a beautiful world, and you are so wanted. Wonderful things have been prepared for you. So don’t be afraid child. We’re all very very glad that you are here.”

Soothing, comforting words of greeting – a great way to welcome so many new things – a baby, a stranger, a brand New Year, even a brand new Millennium. So let us determine together to greet the year 2000 warmly, not holding back as though the next 365 days to come were something to be feared. Let us determine together to greet the New Year and the New Millennium with an outpouring of Christian assurance, Christian optimism, Christian hope!
