He’d just returned from a meeting with his boss, and had found out that he wouldn’t be getting the promotion he’d been hoping for. As he thought about the situation, Jack realized that he hadn’t been performing well lately. He tried to put some pizzazz back into his thinking, but nothing worked. Finally he went to an idea doctor. “I don’t seem to have it anymore,” Jack explained. The doctor asked him a few questions: “Have you tried to stretch your imagination lately?” “No,” Jack answered. “Have you kept an open mind on new possibilities for your life?” “No.” “Have you been more or less conforming your life to ordinary patterns — going along with the crowd?” “Yes,” Jack replied.
