An elderly gentleman on a train trip asked a fellow-passenger: “Do you have any grandchildren?” “Yes,” was the reply. Then he asked another passenger: “Do you have any grandchildren?” “No,” was the reply. “Move over,” the old man said triumphantly. “I want to tell you about mine.”
When the Apostle John wrote his Gospel, he was an old man. And as you read the opening verses, you can almost hear John saying, “Move over everybody. I want to tell you about God. I want to tell you the Good News about the Great God Almighty coming to us in Christ, giving Himself to us in Christ. Move over everybody and listen”:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God … and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:1,14).
