Jesus speaks these words to His disciples as the end of His public life draws near. There is much more to be said that Jesus cannot say. The disciples must await the enlightening activity of the Spirit of Truth. We know that when the Holy Spirit does come to fully enlighten the disciples, they cast aside all inhibitions and open themselves up completely to the world. They become witnessing Christians who are confirmed by the Spirit. They move through the time when things that Jesus told them seemed unbearably incomprehensible. With the coming of the Spirit, they move from incomprehension to deep commitment. They are prepared, at last, to receive the full revelation of God in Jesus Christ. They can bear it all now and they literally rush out to reveal it all to others-unreservedly.
