Today’s Gospel Lesson is taken from Jesus’ lengthy instruction to the Apostles after the Last Supper. Jesus had stunned the Apostles by getting up from the table to wash their feet, saying “If I then, your Lord and teacher have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do what I have done for you…By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples” (Jn. 13:14-15,15:8). Then, in today’s Lesson, Jesus tells them how to produce evidence that they are His true disciples. “…love one another as I have loved you,” He says (Jn. 15:12).
