There is a cartoon in which husband and wife are sitting at the breakfast table. The husband says, “And how is the light of my life this morning.” The wife answers, “Just open the refrigerator door and you’ll find out.”
In another cartoon, father and son are sitting in front of the TV. The boy says, “Dad, is it true that when you were young you actually had to get up and go to the set to change channels?”
There was a time, of course, when refrigerators didn’t come equipped with interior lights. There was a time when there were no refrigerators. There even was a time when there were no “remotes” to change channels. Moreover, the next generation will find it hard to imagine that there was a time when there were no computers, no cellular phones, no FAX machines.
