Tired of just “hanging around,” an elderly man took part-time employment as a messenger. His job was to make pick-ups of legal documents from law offices and deliver them to various court agencies. While on his rounds, he often received additional instructions on the “beeper” he carried with him. One day, he was paged on the beeper and the voice on the other end said, “This is an important message. It is extremely urgent that you make a pick-up immediately. Rush to the office of …” At that moment, a huge truck rumbled by, drowning out the name of the law office. The man looked heavenward and said, “God, where do I go to make the pick-up?” At once, the voice came back on the beeper repeating the name and address of the law office. Hearing this, a nearby woman who had witnessed the entire scene, looked heavenward and said, “Why don’t you ever answer me?”
