A rich man who had acquired his wealth through a series of shifty, questionable business deals, decided to enter politics and run for public office. At the height of his campaign, he burst into the editorial office of the local newspaper and exclaimed, “You are telling lies about me in your paper, and you know it!” To which the editor replied, “I wouldn’t complain if I were you. What would you do if we told the truth about you?”
In today’s Gospel Lesson, Jesus stands before Pilate who says to Him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answers, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth” (Jn. 18:37). Later, after His death and resurrection, the mission of the Gospel writers was to tell the truth about Jesus — to tell the truth about how Jesus carried out His mission to “bear witness to the truth.”…
