Vision,

A biologist was conducting an experiment with caterpillars. He took a flower pot containing a plant. Around the rim of the pot he placed the caterpillars, one behind the other, until they formed a complete circle. The creatures began circling the pot, blindly following each other but going nowhere. They did this for an entire week. Then one-by-one they dropped off the pot, hopelessly exhausted. So narrow was their vision that not one of them had broken away to go to the plant for nourishment.

We live in an incredible era of high technology. Rockets blast off to distant moons and planets, landing with uncanny accuracy. Mammoth airplanes hustle thousands of people from one continent to another in a matter of hours. Robots with movable arms weld and construct automobiles on computerized assembly lines, more swiftly and precisely than the humans who preceded them. High technology, once the mere dream of science fiction writers, is now commonplace.
