Imagine that there is a grasshopper sitting on a milkweed plant near the railroad tracks. A long freight train pulled by three powerful engines rumbles by, creating a huge ruckus. The earth shakes and the milkweed plant begins to bob and weave and the grasshopper looks around. Does he know what is happening? He doesn’t — and that is sort of the way I feel about God. there obviously is something earthshaking happening but it is beyond my understanding.1

So much is happening, as God’s Creative Plan continues to unfold in our human history, that is beyond our understanding.
