A teacher asked her third-graders to write about their personal heroes. One little girl brought her essay home and showed it to her parents. Her father was flattered to discover that his daughter had chosen him. “Why did you pick me?” he asked expectantly. “Because I couldn’t spell Schwarzeneggar,” the little girl replied.

Today’s Gospel Lesson is an excerpt from what has been called Jesus’ “Farewell Discourse.” Jesus is preparing His disciples for His Passion and Death which lies just ahead. “Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid,” He says … “If you loved Me you would have been glad to know that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I” (Jn. 14:27,28).

Reading the Gospels, it’s easy to identify Jesus’ personal “Hero.” Moreover, it’s easy to spell: F-A-T-H-E-R.
