Unfortunately, there are many adult Christians who seem to be a bit fuzzy in their understanding of who God is. This is so, even though knowing the Gospel Truth about God is the essence of the Christian Faith. The essence of the Christian Faith, the Gospel writers tell us, is Good News about God. He is “Love”! That is the bedrock of our faith. All of Christian teaching about who we are and about our relationships with one another is rooted in that Good News.
A little girl, going off to kindergarten class in the morning, said to her mother, “I think I’ll be sad today.” When her mother asked her “Why?” the little girl said, “I found out that when we’re sad all the teachers take turns hugging us.” The Good News of the Gospel is that when we are sad, that’s when God is hugging us; that’s when God is closest to us.
