Are You Following Jesus or turning back?

There are few lines in the Gospels as bracing—and as clarifying—as this one. Jesus doesn’t soften His call. He says, in essence, if you’re going to follow Me, then follow. Not halfway. Not someday. But now.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus is on the move, having resolutely set His course for Jerusalem. This is no casual journey—it marks the moment Jesus turns toward the cross. The mood is solemn. The direction is deliberate. And the road, quite literally, leads to His destiny.

Along the way, three would-be followers approach Him. The first is eager, declaring, “I will follow you wherever you go.” But Jesus answers with a warning: “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” Discipleship, He implies, will cost more than enthusiasm.
