Today we enter into the advent lesson of hope and expectation. And as we reflect on today’s Gospel Lesson, it would appear that Jesus is preparing us for events to come. Jesus tells us in today’s Lesson that the time will come when …

“There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars; on earth nations in agony, bewildered by the clamour of the ocean and its waves; men dying of fear as they await what menaces the world, for the powers of heaven will be shaken” (Lk. 21:25-26).

Having thus spoken about these dire events to come, Jesus suddenly shifts gears, so to speak, and in the same breath adds these reassuring words:
