Jesus Calls Us to Repent
Anything worthwhile bears a price. If you want fullness of life, if you want your life to amount to something better than the humdrum routine of everyday existence there is a price to be paid. In today’s Gospel Lesson, Jesus sums it up in one word: Reform! That is the price of faith in the Lord Jesus: change, turn your life around, forget the aimless direction your life has been taking. This means giving up the habit of blaming others and looking deep into your soul for the direction you desperately need. Pursuing the fullness of life, Jesus offers will likely put you at odds with much that is happening in today’s world. Reform requires giving up old habits and giving in to God’s transformative Love. This is part of the price to be paid when you answer “Yes!” to Jesus’ call to reform.
