A tourist was passing through a picturesque village when he came upon an old resident sitting beside a tree. “Were any great men born in this village?” the tourist asked. “No,” the old man replied, “only babies.”
In and through the Lord Jesus Christ, God offers each one of us — man or woman — the opportunity to achieve greatness. And nothing could be greater than being the person God wants us to be. But like the baby who wants to learn how to walk, we’ve got to take the first step.
In today’s Gospel Lesson, the Risen Christ appears to the disciples and, as He has already done repeatedly, tells them what taking the first step toward greatness is all about. “So you see how it is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead,” He says to them.
