Some years ago, in a widely reported exchange, a Member of Congress dismissed an advocate’s plea for help with a constituent. “I’ve become so wrapped up in national issues that I have no time to focus on individual concerns,” he said. The advocate, unmoved, shot back: “That’s truly remarkable! Even God hasn’t reached that stage yet.” Isn’t that a telling example of how easily our priorities can drift from what matters most?
When those in power focus on scoring political points at the expense of individual concerns, they reveal a distorted vision that is all too common in today’s world. It’s not just a failure to help—it’s a neglect of the very people they are called to serve.
By contrast, the message of the Gospels offers a radically different vision. The New Testament reveals a God who is never too busy, too important, or too distant to respond to the needs of the individual.…
