Today’s Gospel Lesson is an excerpt from what has been called Jesus’ “Farewell Discourse.” Jesus is preparing His disciples for His Passion and Death which lies just ahead. “Peace I bequeath to you, My own peace I give to you, a peace which the world cannot give, this is My gift to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid” (Jn. 14:27).

“A peace the world cannot give.” According to a least one estimate, there has not been a single day of world peace since the end of World War II. Not a single day in which there was not an armed conflict of some sort, going on somewhere in the world. -1
