A young apprentice hoped to produce stained-glass windows as beautiful and inspiring as his teacher. Unable to come close to the master’s genius, the apprentice borrowed his tools to see if that would help. After using the tools for a time, the young man complained, “I’m not doing any better with your tools than I did with mine.” To which the teacher replied, “It’s not the tools of the master you need; it’s the spirit of the master you need.”

Today’s Gospel Lesson is the ultimate example of the Master instructing His apprentices. It is taken from Jesus’ lengthy instruction to the Apostles after the Last Supper.
