There is a little ecumenical story about two pastors in the same town who chanced to meet while walking down the street …

One was a Roman Catholic priest, the other a Methodist Minister. They began to chat and the Methodist minister was bubbling over with enthusiasm as he talked about the new church he was planning to build for his congregation.

The priest offered his good wishes, and the minister with tongue in cheek, said, “Wouldn’t you like to make a contribution?” The priest answered, “I’m not sure my Bishop would favor my contributing to the building of a Protestant church.”

A few days later, the Methodist minister received a letter from the Roman Catholic priest, together with a check for two hundred dollars. In the letter the priest said, “Although my Bishop probably would not consent to a contribution for the building of a Protestant church, nevertheless there surely must be some expense in tearing down the old one.
