What is Truth?

In today’s Gospel Lesson—the Passion Story according to John- Jesus says to Pontius Pilate…

The reason I was born,
the reason why I came into the world,
is to testify to the truth.

Pilate asks him, “Truth! What is that?”

That is the question. It wasn’t just Pilate’s question—it’s ours, too. We ask it every time the ground shakes beneath us. When the world feels upside down. When love seems powerless, and goodness seems buried and gone. We ask it when injustice refuses to yield, when wars rage on, when the vulnerable are trampled and the strong grow stronger. What is Truth? And where is it?

Today, we stand at the foot of the cross, looking up at the One who came to answer that question—not with an argument, not with a theory, but with His very life. The Truth, it turns out, is not an idea. The Truth is a person.
