MOM’S MOTIVATING LOVE
Dorothy Day, the inveterate servant to the poor was asked why she had entered such service and why she gave her all to it. She replied: “I was inspired by my mother who did just that, who opened the doors of our home and welcomed the stranger and the neighbor in need”. She told of the time after the San Francisco earthquake, when her mother took in people who had lost their homes, and spent every day, from morning to night, cooking hot meals. She said her mother gave almost every garment they possessed, and she could not watch her mother in action without being overwhelmed with the love that flowed from her. “I determined I could do no less with my life.”
