When God gives you light, unless it is shared by you, it fades out, dissipates, and darkness returns. This is one of the deepest secrets of the inner life. God is a gracious God. He gives you light in order that you might share it. This explains some of the problem areas in the lives of many of us. Sometimes when the darkness is at its darkest God gives us light in a wonderfully healing way. But it is often the case that the light soon grows dim. It fades. It’s gone! And the darkness returns, not because the light has been taken from us by God but because we have turned it inward where it stagnates and dies. God gives us the light because He loves us and because He wants us to turn it outward where it lives and is fruitful.
