MAKING THE AGE
A comedian talking about growing older says that when we’re young, every year and even parts of the year count. You can’t wait to get older. There’s something mystical about being older. Kids talk about being four and a half or six and a half. Then in your teenage years you always talk about the next age: you say things like, “I’m almost seventeen.” You could be sixteen years old and a day and you would still say, “I’m almost seventeen.” Then comes that magic day when you become twenty-one. After that getting older is a struggle. You TURN thirty. Then you PUSH forty. You REACH fifty. You HIT sixty. And then you MAKE IT to seventy.
