he father of three children was doing his best trying to mediate the usual family quibbling around the dinner table. Fast losing patience, he banged his fist on the table and said sharply, “Everybody wants his own way around here. Me, I’m just a poor, miserable father. When do I get my way for once?” Whereupon, his four-year-old son tugged at his dad’s sleeve and said earnestly, “Cry a little!”

On the eve of Jesus’ crucifixion, Jesus and the twelve Apostles sat around the dinner table. While they were eating, Jesus told the disciples that one of them was about to betray Him. And immediately, there was much quibbling around the table about the betrayer’s identity. After the meal was over, Jesus went to a small estate called Gethsemane. There, “sadness came over Him,” Matthew tells us, “and great distress.” And to say that He cried a little is a monumental understatement. “My soul is sorrowful to the point of death,” He said to…
