A LIGHT FOR SAFE FLIGHT
In October of 1994, Pastor Andy Meverden of Galilee Baptist Church visited one of his church members who was a retired airline captain and a veteran World War II pilot. Pastor Meverden had visited this man — Chick Stevens — in his home. Chick had been inducted into the Airline Safety Hall of Fame, having flown over twenty-six thousand hours with a perfect safety record. Never in that time had he damaged either a civilian or military aircraft on the ground or in the air. The following is adapted from an actual account as told to Pastor Meverden by Chick Stevens about his own experience as a pilot in World War II as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corp.
