A woman who had ordered a “take-out” lunch was pleased by the promptness and courtesy shown by the restaurant’s delivery boy. “What’s your name?” the woman asked the boy. “The next time I call I’ll tell your boss what a good job you’re doing.” “My name is William Shakespeare,” the boy replied. “That’s quite a famous name,” laughed the woman. “It should be,” said the boy, “I’ve been delivering in this neighborhood for almost three years now.”

“Who do men say that I am?” Jesus asked His disciples in today’s Gospel Reading. He is saying, in effect, “I’ve been delivering My Message for almost three years now. And I know that I’ve become more and more famous over these years. But who do the people I’ve been delivering My Message to really think I am. How do they refer to Me. What name do they give Me?”

The disciples tell Jesus that some are calling Him “John the Baptist.” Others see in Him…
