Comedian Jack Benny fancied himself a violinist and liked to be taken seriously when he played an occasional classical selection for his friends. Once, at a party, Jack could hardly wait to tuck his instrument under his chin and offer a rendition. He put everything he had into the piece and, when he had finished, bowed profusely as his audience applauded politely. Whereupon, in sarcastic tones, someone called out, “Now play ‘Poet and Peasant,’ Jack.” Benny actually seemed flattered. “What! Again?” he exclaimed.
