THE SINGING SALZBURGERS
They lived in the 1700’s in Salzburg, Austria. In those days each geographical area was to have only one religious group. Salzburg was not Lutheran, yet a large Lutheran congregation developed there. Then came a new prince who decided to enforce the law. So the edict came: “Lutherans, give up your Lutheran faith or leave. If you leave, your property stays. You may take only what you can carry.” They studied their Bibles. They prayed. They remembered that their Lord had no place to lay his head, and that he said the servant is not above the master. So the decision was made to leave. Then the word came, “Oh yes, you must leave one other thing– your children!” Surely the prince was playing games, just pressuring them. Not really.
